Asics Gel-Lyte 33 Review

The lightest and most flexible shoe of the ASCIS 33 Collection, the Asics Gel-Lyte 33, is also lower and faster than its predecessors. The new Featherweight ASICS Speed Technology adds excitement to the new shoe and to the fan favorite ASICS 33 Collection in general. Whether you run on a trail or in an urban jungle, you can experience speed and flexibility like never before. The ample mesh on the upper section of the shoe provides ventilation to your foot, and keeps you comfortable during your runs in hot summer months as well. The strategically placed cushions in the sole of the shoe act as shock absorbers and lower the impact of footstrikes on your feet, legs and joints.

Overview of the Asics Gel-Lyte 33

When compared to some of its contemporaries, the Asics Gel-Lyte 33 is a relatively simple shoe. It consists of a flexible and padded midsole that offers protection against impact. It also improves your speed and responsiveness. The midsole is covered with a mesh that forms the breathable upper section which ventilates your feet and improves the fit of the shoe. The smooth, trendy and comfortable Asics Gel-Lyte 33 is great for races, tempo runs, daily training, and fast workouts. The neutral running shoe is built with a curved shape for comfort and performance.

The midsole of the Asics Gel-Lyte 33 is made up of a super light material known as the Solyte. Unlike other Asics shoes, the F.A.S.T. Ride technology of an Asics Gel-Lyte 33 uses firmer Solyte foam. The high-end, trademark midsole offers comfort, shock absorption, durability and responsiveness. The thin and lightweight midsole system also supports fast and efficient running.

The shoe also consists of a vertical flex groove in the forefoot called the Guidance Line. The moment I saw it I realized the shoe would have greater gait efficiency as well. Another striking feature of an Asics Gel-Lyte 33 for me was the heel-to-toe drop of 6 mm. This is a great option for runners with midfoot and forefoot striking. The shoe also has deep flex grooves in the midsole for improving the overall range of motion.

Another characteristic feature of the Asics Gel-Lyte 33 is the gel cushioning system at the back of the foot for responsive movement upon impact. The thin heel collar hugs the heel without adding bulk or weight to the shoe. I love the cool reflective material on top of the shoe. It will help others see you in the dark. It is also a great conversation point, every time I wear it. The carbon reinforced soles add durability to the shoe. However, the product has been in market only for about 2 months and I haven’t used it enough to substantiate the claim. I must add that it seems fine after 40 miles of use.
